Marathon Workshop

A massive thank you to everyone who came to my Marathon Workshop. It was great to have all the chairs filled with just under 100 of you there. I only managed to scratch the surface of each topic but I hope you all took something away from it. I’ve emailed you all today with a summary of what we covered. Please let me have your feedback so I can look at the possibility of setting up further workshops. Thanks again and happy training.

“The JEL Fitness workshop provides an excellent overview of the various different aspects of marathon running. It opened my eyes to the importance of ensuring that the training I do is appropriate for the physiological point I am at at any given point in time and not focussed on an arbitrary time that sounds good! Jan’s experience is vast which allows her to talk credibly about this subject. I have definitely come away with a clear picture of what I will change about my current training regime and a confidence that these changes will positively impact my race times but also my enjoyment of training. “Workshop was really fantastic last night. Venue was ideal with plenty of room for both the presentation and the practical session with Sue. Everything was well put together and came across very professional. The content was well thought through and pitched at a perfect level for both the ‘fast’ boys and those just looking to improve on their current achievements. It was good to see so many people from around the running and coaching world volunteer to be part of the session. That really helped get a balanced view of things and not become a ‘preaching session from Jan’.
I was particularly interested in the training plans and specifically the bench marking. It really highlighted the important of doing this. It showed that I am doing a lot of things right but also falling into a lot of pitfalls along the way. Having never ran a marathon that I was happy with, I was about to call it a day and concentrate on other distances but I will definitely think more about that, although most of these practices could be applied to any distance. I will definitely train differently and would be interested in any future workshops”

“I’ve run 2 marathons now, the first was a baptism, the training challenging and the race very emotionally confronting, especially when I bonked. The second marathon’s training was marred by injury but the race was the best day of my life.
I always felt that training smarter was key and not harder and I feel you gave me enough pointers to find the info to train smarter. I learned a lot from the evening and feel my eyes are now open. This was the first time I’d ventured away from my running club.
Please do run another workshop and what I would like to learn more about is effective goal setting in conjunction with bench marking and how to rut bust/ prevent plateauing. Once again thank you for your time and sharing your expertise”
